White Sands (NEN)

The White Sands propagation terminal has been continuously operational since February 1, 2009 and was developed primarily for the determination of the atmospheric phase stability at the White Sands Second TDRSS Ground Terminal (STGT) site.

The layout of the two-element interferometer is shown above. A 208-m baseline separates two 1.2-m antenna systems monitoring an unmodulated beacon signal broadcast from the geostationary satellite Anik F2. The elements are aligned on a north-south baseline (direction of predominant winds).
